swayamvar ( girl chooses her hubby )

In ancient times in INDIA the girls of marriageable age used to choose thier husbands in a ceremony called SWAYAMVAR ( in sanskrit SWAYAM means SELF + VAR means GROOM ).

SWAYAMVAR is a ceremony in which the parents of the girl invite the men who are interested in marrying their daughter when the girl becomes of marriageable age .

In this ceremony the girl will choose her hubby of her own choice .
This is the best way to get the girl married instead of the way it is done today by forcibly getting their daughters married to the man of the parents choice ( by arranging the marriage ).

This will save a lot of trouble for the families ( both for the girls family as well as the boys family ) .

Also this will reduce the chances of false dowry cases and then falsely implicating the hubby’s family for various false draconian cases like IPC 498a etc.

This will also help in doing away with so called dowry deaths of brides as the husband and bride will have choosen each other and will be more willing to help each other in having a successfull relationship and there will no question of dowry in a marriage which takes place as SWAYAMVAR.

The government of INDIA should make a law that the girls should pick up their husbands of their choice and NOT be forced to marry where her parents or family members want her to marry .

Tradition of SWAYAMVAR must be revived.
