Chandigarh, September 6
A day after the launch of the Chandigarh chapter of the All-India Mother-in-Law Protection Forum (AIMPF), the forum received 45 phone calls on its helpline from elderly women facing dowry harassment cases today.
Local chapter in charge Manjit Puri said the forum was launched on Sunday, aiming to create awareness about rights of mothers-in-law.
The in charge said people not only from the tricity but also from Punjab and Haryana, facing cases of dowry harassment, had come forward to seek assistance.
“Not just husbands but their elderly mothers and other family members also suffer on account of false cases registered under 498A of the IPC. The misuse of law has just become another way of making money for the police and lawyers,” said Puri.
The in charge said they would hold meetings on Sundays at Leisure Valley, Sector 10, from 4 pm to 7 pm and would be available on helpline 95695 63161 round-the-clock.
